Kenya

Our work in Kenya focuses on supporting youth-led networks and organisations to actively contribute to peacebuilding and conflict prevention in their communities.

Overview of our work in Kenya

We have been working in Kenya since 2023, supporting youth-led networks and organisations to actively contribute to peacebuilding and conflict prevention in their communities. Youth marginalisation, strained state-citizen relations, violent extremism and resource-based conflicts have all threatened to undermine peace and stability in Kenya in recent years.

Peaceful Change initiative is working along the Swahili Coast, including in Kenya’s Kwale region, to support youth-led networks and organisations to actively practice and disseminate learning on peacebuilding and conflict prevention. We do this through working in collaboration with academics to produce and share knowledge, by providing training, and by offering ongoing support and advice to partner organisations.

Highlights of our work in Kenya

Kujenga Amani Pamoja

The Kujenga Amani Pamoja project works in the Swahili Coast regions of Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique to support youth-led networks and organisations to actively practice and disseminate learning on peacebuilding and conflict prevention. It looks particularly at the ways in which young men and women can support peacebuilding and inclusion through cultural practices. The project takes place in a region that experiences high levels of youth unemployment and young people’s political marginalisation, creating grievances that are easily manipulated by violent extremist groups.
